Build a Scandinavian dining table03 January 2023
Audrey, known as @mmequeenb, wanted to change her square dining table for a rectangular dining table. She decided to challenge herself by making it herself. Thus, she has the satisfaction and pride of having made her furniture from A to Z.
The table that @mmequeenb has made measures 2m20 x 87 m for a height of 74 cm. The cost of the dining table is €350 (wood and table legs included).
Let's go for the DIY of a dining table: large, good value for money, Scandinavian and above all modern.
- 2 cross legs 71 cm gold
- 6 pine boards of 2m20 x 14.5 cm and thickness 1.8 cm
- 4 cleats of 2m40 thickness 3.8 cm
- 36 4cm screws
- 16 screws of 2 cm + washers to fix the feet on the tabletop
- Hyphenation white paint
- Translucent varnish
- 180g sanding paper
Pay special attention when choosing the boards, especially in the design of the knots and that the boards are not twisted to have a completely flat surface in the final result.
Sand the boards and cleats to remove all roughness from the wood.
Varnish each of the elements (cleats + planks) using a translucent varnish and a brush.
Sand down the varnish using sanding paper, then apply a coat of “caesura” effect paint.< /p>
White lead is like applying paint to a wooden board that will reveal the designs of the wood, i.e. these knots and veins.
Time to move on to assembling the tray. Place the boards in their viewing order.
Cut 2 of the cleats to obtain 2m20 and arrange them at each end, edge to edge and lengthwise.
Cut the 2 remaining cleats to create 4 cleats 79.4 cm long and arrange them widthwise: 2 each ends, edge to edge and 2 in the center, approximately every 73 cm.
This creates a structure that you will come to fix on the board using 36 screws.
Place the legs 20 cm from the edge, center them in relation to the width of the top and secure them using the hinge screws and a screwdriver.
Tip: tuck in the feet up to 30 cm to add additional guests end of table
Let's take care of the finishing touches by adding wood filler to the joint between the structure and the boards. Then by painting the contours of the tray for touch-ups.
And here's how to make a modern and authentic table in 7 steps for a very specific budget.
Audrey has managed to create the dining table of her dreams, which can accommodate 6 people on a daily basis and 10 when It's necessary. Just place 3 chairs on each side and 2 chairs at each end of the table to achieve this without any difficulty.
Satisfaction and pride are there. So you love your new piece of furniture a little more every day.
