KOPO Création: designer of furniture made in France

Just 1 year ago, KOPO Création was born: designer cabinetmaker, the company manufactures original and functional creations, eco-responsible where 99.9% of its supplies come from France: wood of course but also varnish, glue, glass and feet! Annabelle and Grégoire the founders, share with us their project which was born during a trip around the world.

HOW THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, A CABINET WORKSHOP WAS BORN IN FRANCE?

We had been living in Paris for a few years, I was an executive assistant in restoration and Grégoire was an engineer in the automotive industry ... so nothing to do with cabinetmaking. We wanted to give another meaning to our life, a desire for discovery; we took our backpacks and went to South America first, then to Asia.

This year was so rich, in each place we tried to meet the artisans, these people who shape and create a territory, traditions : stonemasons, sculptors, carpenters, boilermakers ... We realized that all these people around the world had things in common: they carried out their jobs where the resources were and minimized the waste, everything has a use.

When we returned to France from our trip, we had no precise idea of what our new project would be, we continued to walk, full of ideas in our heads. Grégoire then trained in cabinetmaking with the companions of duty and worked for 2 years with one of his masters.

We talked a lot about his new job and the idea came to us that many people dream of designer, creating their own furniture, choosing its tone, style, color, material but that they often have difficulty in doing so (and yes it is a profession!) and to realize the result.

So, we said to ourselves, what if we create aesthetic furniture that is totally adaptable to the constraints and desires of people, eco-responsible and in addition that does not cost the eyes of the head. KOPO CREATION is the culmination and realization of this project. All the furniture and creations we offer are customizable and manufactured with 99.99% French supplies including wood: we have chosen not to work only with solid Burgundy oak, a good quality essence.

AND THIS IS WHERE THE FEET COMES !

We have always wanted to work with wood with different materials: copper, marble, glass and metal. Our furniture needed legs and we searched the net for a supplier of legs. It was on Instagram that we found La Fabrique des Pieds and it was a real encounter with Florent its founder : the physical proximity of our workshops of course and above all the same proximity to the material: we like to create, touch, imagine, polish the products we manufacture by emphasizing the raw material. Florent is steel, Grégoire is wood.

For us, La Fabrique des pieds rhymes with kindness, humor of its team and beauty of its creations..

Initially, we mainly took triple feet to enhance the volume of vinyl furniture, our first creations. We didn't know how to give them height, the triple foot fits into the design of the furniture while ventilating it, it's just perfect.

Since then, we have used almost all of the Fabrique's feet : crosses, rectangles, pins, of any height for dinner tables, coffee tables and furniture. When we think of our next furniture creations, it is true that we have the feet of the Factory in the back of our heads, there is a great complementarity between our products.

CREATE, FIND INSPIRATION CONTINUOUSLY, HOW DO YOU DO IT ?

Without sounding cliché, it is by walking that you find inspiration , we both have, without really knowing it, our senses and minds on alert to what is going on. And then exchange, discuss and above all listen to others.

We see matter differently , some could see the limits of matter as a constraint, we chose to see it differently by seeing it as an opportunity and with this perspective, you can create anything! For example, even with offcuts, we were able to create a tray by integrating them to give expressions of volume. We accept matter as it is. This is the very profession of craftsmanship and this is what we wanted to convey in our company KOPO CREATION. La Fabrique is in this state of mind: enhance the material and transmit the beautiful to everyone.
