We have already presented the DIYs of different trays to you with bastaings or even a stylized tray staggered . For this DIY, we are going to create a dining table with a chevron top using floor boots. You can adapt these dimensions to make a top for a coffee table or a console. It's up to you to define the finished dimensions of the table top and adapt them accordingly. Let's go for the DIY tutorial!
EQUIPMENT
- 2 to 3 floor boots
- 1 MDF board 1m80 by 1m
- 2 champlats 180cm long by 3cm wide by 2.5cm thick
- 2 champlats 94cm long by 3cm wide by 2.5cm thick
- Jigsaw
- Wood glue
- 2 golden cross legs 71 cm
- 16 hinge screws of 20 mm
STEP 1 :
We'll start by arranging the floor to give it the shape and feel we want. The idea is to arrange the boards in a chevron, that is to say point to point.
Assemble the floor slats making sure to cover the entire MDF board, i.e. 1m80 by 1m.
STEP 2 :
Use the jigsaw to cut each end of the board protruding from the frame of the MDF table top. Do not cut to the exact measurement but take a few centimeters wider. We will fine-tune the cut later.
STEP 3 :
Stick the floor slats on the MDF, taking care to follow the previously defined arrangement in the form of a chevron with wood glue. Then let dry for the time indicated. You can add weight to the tray to make sure it does not curl as it dries.
STEP 4 :
Once everything is dry, we will turn the top over to have the MDF side in front of us. Trace a line on the rafter slats following the MDF panel. Make sure you have a straight line.
STEP 5 :
With the jigsaw, we will cut the pieces protruding from the MDF by following the line previously drawn.
STEP 6 :
Lightly sand the edges to smooth the floor slats.
STEP 7 :
Keep the top with the MDF side under your eyes. We will take care of the finishes and come and glue the champlats then let dry. Start with the longest champlats because they are equal to the length of the tray.
STEP 8 :
Glue the champlats in the direction of the width then let dry.
THE LEGS
STEP 9 :
Your board is now finished! We are going to position the feet. Place the top on the floor with the MDF side under your eyes. Position the feet cross 71 cm 15 cm from the edge on each side.
>STEP 10 :
Secure the feet with the 20mm hinge screws.
THE RESULT
It's your turn to embark on the DIY manufacture of this chevron tray! This will give an extra touch to your tray.
