Based on an original idea by Cécile, the Misc Webzine blogand the Instagram account @cecilegs_misc, here is a DIY to make a farm table.
To replace a round table, Cécile imagined a tailor-made table, which can easily go from 4 to 8 guests. Finding nothing satisfactory in the store, here she is launched into the design of a homemade tray !
We explain how to make yours in a few steps :
EQUIPMENT
- 5 solid oak boards 180 cm and 13 cm, 14 cm, 15.5 cm yes 17 cm and 2.8 cm thick
- 1 bastaing 140 cm by 18 cm and 4 cm thick
- Saw
- Miter box
- Wood screws
- 2 feet A 71 cm
- Screwdriver
- Hinge screw
DIY PROCESS
STEP 1
Choose your wood, here solid oak and the length of the boards, 180 cm. We will use boards of different widths (between 13, 14, 15.5 and 17 cm) to play on the farmhouse, rustic side of the final rendering of the table.
The wood was unearthed in a sawmill.
Tips : In large DIY stores, check that the boards are not twisted or twisted otherwise the finished table will not be stable.
STEP 2
Position the 5 boards next to each other, taking care to leave a 2mm gap between each board.
STEP 3
We will take care of the bastaings which will serve as reinforcement using the saw and the miter box.
You need 2 bastaings of 70 cm by 18 cm cut at an angle at 45 °. To do this, use the 140 cm by 18 cm and 4 cm thick bastaing, cut it in 2 and using the miter box and the saw, cut so as to obtain the 45 ° angle bias.
Tips : We advise you to sand the bastaings to prevent the knees and tights, for example, from getting caught under the table top.
STEP 4
Once you are sure of the combination of the boards and that you have the bastaings, position them 25 cm from the edge.
Secure them using the wood screws and the screwdriver.
STEP 5
Once the reinforcements are fixed, position the feet in the center of the bastaing reinforcement and screw the feet at 71 cm using the hinge screws and the screwdriver.
STEP 6
To protect the tray over time, apply a special kitchen varnish to the tray using a brush. Leave to dry for the indicated time.
